Prior to being reborn as Spike, he was the shy and sensitive William the Bloody, branded for his bloody awful poetry. Notorious for having already killed two Slayers, Spike tried desperately to kill Buffy before finally giving in to his affections. After regaining his soul, he sacrificed himself to help Buffy defeat the First Evil, but later surfaced in Los Angeles where he continued his journey toward redemption.
